Matthew 4: 4 “…People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God…”

Dear reader, Jesus reveals a very profound truth to mankind with this statement. Atruth that is worth pondering and thinking over.

Many Christians struggle to grab the meaning of this verse – what more to say those who are still living in unbelief! Jesus explicitly states that people – meaning all of mankind – need to feed on the Word of God.

Feeding is an active verb. To feed on the Word of God means that we have to take it in as frequently as we possibly can. It also indicates that we need the Word of God as part of our spiritual diet every day. The Word of God must take pre-eminence over our stomachs. We must take it in like we would food. I am not saying we must stop eating, dear believer. I am saying that we need to read the Word of God more!

Let me ask you this question: How much time per day do you spend on reading the Word of God?

You see, the natural necessities and essentials for life are not enough to fulfill and sustain/satisfy mankind. Due to the fact that man is a tri-une being, composed of body, soul and spirit, man will never be able to taste abundant life by only indulging in what satisfies the body. The soul and the spirit need nourishment as well! The Word of God provides this nourishment! (Psalm 119: 165)

Believer, only the Word of God can give you true and lasting fulfillment. Without it, you will feel empty, drained and parched/unsatisfied – almost like you are continuously searching for something, but cannot find it. I want to challenge you to start feeding on the Word of God on a daily basis.

You will clearly notice a difference in yourself if you pursue this with diligence and consistency!

“Heavenly Father, we realize that we often neglect Your Word. Help us to realize that we need the Word of God to nourish our souls every day if we are to walk boldly, confidently and wisely. Your Word is the ultimate truth. Your Word is unchangable and unshakable. Your Word will always accomplish the purpose that it was intended for. Your Word is so powerful. Give us a renewed hunger for more of Your Word. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
